Answer Elicitation is a process of drawing or receiving information from the stakeholder and from the other reliable sources. It is the primary way to find requirements and design information by directly talking with stakeholder or researching topics and experimenting.
Collaboration is act of two or more people working for a single and common goal. The Elicitation and collaboration knowledge area helps the business analyst to identify and reach on an agreement by the mutual understanding of the different types of business analysis information.
Question What are the key tasks that need to be done under Elicitation and collaboration?
Answer Prepare for Elicitation: - In this stage stakeholder are preparing for Elicitation, making sure that Stakeholder have an information that they have to provide. In this stage preparing and gathering information for the Elicitation and clarifying the scope of the Elicitation process.
Conduct Elicitation: - Conduct Elicitation involves understanding the needs of Stakeholder and finding the possible and potential solutions of that may fulfill those needs. This stage consists of direct conversation with Stakeholder and doing some research and do some experiments.
Confirm Elicitation results: -This step involves record the information provided by the Stakeholder using for business analysis. The main purpose of the confirm Elicitation results is to demonstrate that the requirements stated by the stakeholder correctly matches the stakeholder needs and stakeholder problem.
Communicate business analysis information: -This process includes communicate the business analysis information to stakeholder in a useful and meaningful format.
Mange Stakeholder collaboration: -It is a process of engaging with stakeholder in a business analysis process and finding the outcome.
Question What are common types of Elicitation?
Collaborative: -It consists of face to face communication with Stakeholders and working for the common goal.
Research: - It is a systematic discover of the information from resources that are indirectly known to stakeholder. Research is mostly done on historical data to analyze the past trends.
Experiments: -this is a process in which experiments are done to find the unknown information as it cannot be retrieved from people and documents.
Question What are some Elicitation techniques?
Answer Basically there are numerous elicitation techniques such as Brainstorming, interviews, document analysis, focus groups, reviews, workshops. The few main is described as followed.
Brainstorming: - Brainstorming is the most useful technique for elicitation. As a business analyst brainstorming enables you to capture a wide range of information from stakeholder and other representatives, which will give an idea to a business analyst what steps should be taken to obtain the business success.
Reviews: - It is a useful technique to verify the elicitation results. Reviews may be formal and informal. By taking the reviews, BA can check that the information collected from the elicitation is correct or not.
Focus group: - It is a technique that includes gathering of all the internal and external stakeholder and can be used to collect a lot of information. The discussion in the group is on various issues.
Question How manage a stakeholder collaboration is important in business activities?
Answer Managing the collaboration of stakeholders in business activities is key to obtain success as stakeholder engagement encourages the stakeholder to work towards a common goal. Choosing the right stakeholder for engagement at a right time is more important than just managing their engagement. Business analyst is the one who determine the roles of the stakeholder and communicate with them. Business analyst encourages stakeholder involvement in order to reduce the impact of negative reactions and constantly supervise their involvement in the business analysis activities and establish a relationship with them as the poor relationships will be detrimental for business analysis.

  1. The purpose of preparing for elicitation is to understand the scope of elicitation activities,select appropriate techniques, and plan for appropriate supporting materials and resources. Business Analysts prepare for elicitation by defining the desired outcomes of the activity, considering the stakeholders involved and the goals of the initiative. Preparation may also involve identifying research sources or preparing to conduct an experiment to see if a process change actually results in an improvement.

As the opinion of customers is immensely important for the bank to succeed, hence the requirements of TD's stakeholders are gathered by many ways, such as feedback from customers, surveys and so on. Apart from this, collaboration of internal stakeholders i.e. employees of TD bank is also effective in the goal achieving process. The employees need to work collaboratively in order to satisfy its customers and therefore, accomplish its goals. Through different techniques of elicitation and collaboration, TD bank focuses on deepening the customer relationships.

  3. In my opinion, collaboration is extremely vital in a bank where there are many cooperation of many departments to make sure the work process smoothly. At TD Bank, thanks to their significant collaboration from all employees and also from the boards of managers, they have contributed to help the bank ranking second position in Canada.
    A business analysts should not only deeply understand the elicitation and collaboration knowledge area but also know how to apply them effectively on the job.
    Among the three popular types of Elicitation, I find that the collaborative type seems the most efficient because only through many things are really worked out by direct communication. However, when using any techniques, a business analyst should be flexible and well-prepared for selecting the appropriate techniques.
